Rear view mirror.
Looking back on 2009.
Wow, not just 2009 but the whole decade was a different one in my life. (From D/FW to five years in England and back to Grapevine… those geographic shifts barely chronicle the changes in me.)
The past six months, though, have truly been life changing. In July I started to come to grips with how really awful I felt and began to search for what to do about it all. (Fortunately, modern medicine isn't my first resort.)
It was around the first of August that I got yet another email from The Raw Divas about their 7-Day Detox and, well, the rest is my personal history. Minus 17 pounds, about ten inches measured in four places and tons of toxins. I'm so grateful for all the tiny pieces of the puzzle that fell into place to get me going!
It's interesting, though, to look into that rear view mirror at the last month or so, the 'holidays' as we call them. Beyond my eggnog obsession, I've dipped into way too much stuff that my body has trouble dealing with. Cookies, fudge, pecan pie and a stocking full of candy, for heaven's sake… which I absolutely enjoyed eating!
Certainly, I'm not alone. I love the way the Green Smoothie Queen herself, Tera Warner, speaks so authentically of her 2009 holidays and mashed potatoes. Another note from Tera today touches on that point again:
Knowing that my friends chose to eat macaroni dinners and microwaved carrots rather than upset, annoy or irritate their families at Christmas time was touching and reassuring.
That's the point, really, isn't it? While we can't make those we care about eat better, we can definitely set a good example. And truly accepting where someone is at the moment is always key. Even—especially—if that someone is yourself.
I'm more than ready to turn over not only a calendar page but a new leaf—a vibrantly green one—and to create for myself an even healthier, happier future.
Happy New Year, everyone… and may 2010 be filled with green smoothies!
